In order to get the best playing
characteristics and tone out of your instrument it has to be set up well.
set up meaning everything that isn't physically part of the
instrument,e.g. sound post, bridge, tailpiece etc.
Through humidity changes, age and your playing, your instrument changes
and might need the set up adjusted.
I specialize in working with musicians to optimize their instrument for
their needs.
I also have recording equipment for more objective comparisons, since
memory of sound can be very elusive.

post, bridge, tail piece, strings, fingerboard are all part of the set up
of an instrument that contributes to the sound and playability. A good set
up can make an enormous difference to a violin although it cannot make a
good out of a bad instrument.Differnt players and playing styles also
require a set up that is specific to their needs. Some players achieve
impressive results with more bow pressure, slow bow speed close to the
bridge, other players will achieve different but similarly impressive
results with lighter strings, possibly gut strings, more bow speed,
drawing out the sound with a contact point further away from the bridge.
In order to allow those different playing styles the set uo, sound post in
particular wants to be adjusted to suit them. |
